This GI tag, awarded on the auspicious day of Utkal Divas i.e. 1st April 2019, recognizes the unique qualities of Kandhamal Turmeric, including its high curcumin content (above 3%), vibrant yellow color, and strong aroma, which are attributed to the region's specific soil, climate, and traditional farming practices.
