Kandhamal Turmeric has been granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag under the initiatives led by KASAM (Kandhamal Apex Spices Association for Marketing). This GI tag, awarded on the auspicious day of Utkal Divas i.e. 1st April 2019, recognizes the unique qualities of Kandhamal Turmeric, including its high curcumin content (above 3%), vibrant yellow color, and strong aroma, which are attributed to the region's specific soil, climate, and traditional farming practices.
"Kandhamal Haladi (Turmeric)" is a medicinal spice so timelessly interwoven with the origins of human culture and metabolism, so thoroughly supported by modern scientific inquiry, as to be unparalleled in its proven value to human health and well-being.
